Kal Tek
Kal Tek is a man of many talents with a great passion for entertainment. As early as age 11, Kal knew he was a lover of all things Hip-Hop. By this time he was writing notebooks full of original songs and recording on his karaoke machine. At 17, the performance bug bit him after his high school talent show in 1999, when his group singlehandedly shut down Callaway High for a day after their performance. Ever since then he knew this is what he wanted to do. Kal Tek pursued his dream, but realized he needed a back up plan. He decided to attend Jackson State University. During his matriculation he worked as a DJ for WJSU, a jazz radio station on campus. Graduating in 2007 from JSU with a bachelors degree in mass communications and a minor in history, Kal received a job at 16 WAPT News in Jackson, MS. While working full time, he found ways to continue to work on his craft.
Many companies sought Kal for songwriting, recording, and even some acting. He worked with EyeVox Entertainment in Ridgeland, MS, on projects such as Primos Hunting Calls commercial series, safety videos for the Mississippi State Troopers, and a local electric company training video. Kal also shot his first professional video with EyeVox in conjunction with MCEDA (Madison county economic development authority) for the Madison County School District called Dream Weaver, which was aimed at keeping students from dropping out of school and distributed to every child in the district. The last acting project he pursued with EyeVox was for a series called On The Lot for FOX. The short film was called Blindsided, which was viewed by Steven Spielberg and Brett Ratner.
In 2009, Kal Tek moved to Florida for better opportunity in music and his professional career. He was hired at SNN6 in Sarasota,FL, as a photographer, reporter, and sports news anchor. Through his job he met a group of local film producers who would later help him with his second professional music video for his original song entitled Gotta Get It. The film company’s name was Faced Productions. They enlisted Kalvin for his writing skills for a film they were shooting called Mangrove Slasher 2. Not only did Kalvin write the title song for the movie but he made a cameo as a news reporter. The movie was featured at the Sarasota Film Festival. He also wrote a song for a second movie the group was working on. Kalvin also appeared in a short film called Pique for the Righteous Entertainment in 2011.
In 2013, Kal Tek was given the opportunity to work with BFG Communications out of Savannah,GA. He was asked to submit a song idea and they loved his concept, so much so that he was flown out by the company to work with the senior marketing director for Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company in Santa Fe, NM. Kal Tek wrote original lyrics for the song and worked as a music consultant for the individuals performing the song. Needless to say, Kalvin has quite a niche for all walks of entertainment. From performing, to writing, to acting, he is truly a Renaissance man. He is passionate and dedicated in all of his endeavors. Kal Tek has always believed that hard work and tremendous effort will always take you farther than waiting for your dreams to fall into your lap. He is and always will be a man of action and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
